How Etsy fees work
For a normal sale in the US, Etsy charges three fees. The calculator above uses these rates by default, and you can change any of them under Fee rates if your country or situation is different.
- Listing fee, $0.20. Charged when you publish a listing, again when it renews every four months, and again for each extra quantity sold from the same listing.
- Transaction fee, 6.5%. Charged on the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer.
- Payment processing, 3% + $0.25 (US). Charged on the full order total. Rates are different in other countries, so check your own rate in Etsy's fee policy.
Two more fees only apply sometimes: the Offsite Ads fee (15%, or 12% if your shop sold over $10,000 in the prior 365 days, capped at $100 per order) when a buyer came from an Etsy ad on another website, and a 2.5% currency conversion fee if your listings are in a different currency from your payment account.
The formula
Profit = (price + shipping) − Etsy fees − item cost − real shipping − packaging − ad spend
Example: a $25 mug with $5 shipping
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Order total ($25 + $5) | $30.00 |
| Listing fee | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee (6.5% of $30) | $1.95 |
| Payment processing (3% of $30 + $0.25) | $1.15 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.30 |
| Minus item $6, postage $4.50, packaging $0.80 | −$11.30 |
| Profit | $15.40 (51% margin) |
If the same sale came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, another $4.50 would go to Etsy and the profit would drop to $10.90. That is why many sellers build a little room for Offsite Ads into their prices.
Tips to keep more of each sale
- Price with fees in mind. Use the Etsy pricing calculator to work backwards from the profit you want.
- Count your real shipping cost. Free shipping is fine, but the label still costs you money, so it must be inside the price.
- Watch the small items. The fixed $0.20 and $0.25 fees take a much bigger share of a $3 sticker than of a $40 print.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
In the US, with no shipping and no Offsite Ad, about $9.95: $0.20 listing, $6.50 transaction (6.5%) and $3.25 processing (3% + $0.25). That is roughly 10% of the sale.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both include the shipping you charge the buyer.
Can I turn off Offsite Ads?
Shops that made under $10,000 in the prior 365 days can opt out in their shop settings. Shops above that amount are always enrolled, but at the lower 12% rate.
Are these the fees for every country?
The listing and transaction fees are the same everywhere, but payment processing rates depend on the country of your bank account. Enter your own rate under Fee rates.
