How the Offsite Ads fee works
Etsy pays to show some listings on other sites such as Google, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. You pay nothing for the ads themselves. You only pay a fee when an ad leads to a sale: the buyer clicks an Offsite Ad and buys from your shop within 30 days.
- 15% if your shop has always made under $10,000 in any 365-day period. You can opt out in Shop Manager › Settings › Offsite Ads.
- 12% once your shop has made $10,000 or more in a 365-day period. From then on, taking part is required for the life of the shop.
- $100 cap. Etsy says the fee on a single order will never be more than $100, whatever the order total.
Order size where the cap starts = $100 ÷ rate ($666.67 at 15%, $833.33 at 12%)
Example: a $25 item with $5 shipping
| Line | 15% shop | 12% shop |
|---|---|---|
| Order total | $30.00 | $30.00 |
| Offsite Ads fee | $4.50 | $3.60 |
| Profit before the fee (from the Etsy fee calculator) | $15.40 | $15.40 |
| Profit after the fee | $10.90 | $11.80 |
On a $1,000 order, 15% would be $150, but the cap means Etsy charges $100.
Tips
- Price for it if you are enrolled. You cannot tell in advance which orders will come from an ad, so leave enough margin to absorb the fee. The Etsy pricing calculator can include it.
- Check your Payment account. Orders that carry the fee are shown in your Payment account, so you can see how often it happens in your shop.
- Small, cheap items suffer most. A 15% fee on top of Etsy's normal fees can wipe out the profit on a low-priced item. Look at the profit after the fee above before deciding to stay in or opt out.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Offsite Ads fee charged on shipping?
Etsy describes the fee as a share of the order total. This calculator uses the item price plus the shipping the buyer paid, the same order total used in our Etsy fee calculator. Check your Payment account for the exact amount on a real order.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Only if your shop has never made $10,000 or more in a 365-day period. Once it has, participation is required for the life of the shop, at the lower 12% rate.
Do I pay for clicks that do not lead to a sale?
No. You only pay when an order is attributed to an Offsite Ad. If the buyer's last click before buying was an Etsy Ad on Etsy, only the Etsy Ads cost applies, not the Offsite Ads fee.
Can one ad click lead to several fees?
Yes. If the same buyer places more than one order within the 30-day window, each order can be charged its own fee, and each one is capped at $100.
